Overview

The Controller will play a critical leadership role in CodeRabbit’s growth. This person will build and scale the accounting and financial reporting infrastructure, strengthen internal controls, and support strategic decision-making as the company scales.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, interested in AI, and has prior experience building an Accounting function in fast-paced startup environments.

Qualifications

Financial Reporting & Close

  • Own the monthly and annual close process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP.

  • Prepare and review financial statements, management reporting packages, and variance analyses.

  • Partner with department leaders to review monthly results and key drivers.

  • Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, and accounting policies.

Business Partnership

  • Partner with the VP of Finance and FP&A on budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning.

  • Provide financial insights supporting pricing, strategic initiatives, and operating decisions.

  • Support board reporting, investor updates, and diligence requests.

Accounting Operations

  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management.

  • Manage and develop the outsourced accounting team.

  • Ensure accurate revenue recognition under ASC 606 (SaaS/subscription, usage-based billing, contract modifications).

  • Manage fixed assets, capitalization, depreciation, and amortization.

  • Partner with FP&A and Revenue Operations on customer metrics integrity and data accuracy.

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Design, implement, and maintain internal controls appropriate for a rapidly growing international company.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements.

  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other third-party service providers.

  • Manage both external and internal audits and prepare financial reports. Drive company’s first Big 4 audit to completion.

Systems & Process Scaling

  • Bring Accounting fully in house, and drive transition from Quickbooks to a more sophisticated ERP system (Rillet or Campfire)

  • Ensure the establishment, documentation, and adherence to policies and procedures (internal controls).

  • Build scalable processes to support rapid growth in headcount and transaction volume.

Banking

  • Oversee banking and investment accounts.

  • Ensure timely reconciliations and strong cash controls.

Team Leadership

  • Recruit, manage, and lead the accounting team, providing guidance, training, and mentorship to foster high-performance and professional growth.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration.

Qualifications

What specific skills should this person have?

  • 10+ years of accounting experience with at least 2+ years experience owning the full Accounting function.

  • CPA required, with public accounting experience, BS/BA degree in Finance or Accounting and strong technical accounting knowledge of US GAAP.

  • Proven ability to identify and drive process and system improvements.

  • Ability to lead and mentor but also roll up sleeves and be a team player.

  • Excellent attention to detail with excellent organizational and analytical skills.

  • Energetic and positive attitude.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact with and influence management and contributors at all levels of the organization and across functions.

  • Proven ability to leverage AI tools.

  • Located in San Francisco.

Base pay range for this role is $270-320k. Actual salary will be based on job-related skills, experience, and location.
