Weave is looking for an Engineering Manager (SIP Engineering) to lead, mentor, and scale our Voice Platform team while remaining hands-on with complex cloud-based telecom architecture. In this dual role, you will ensure our distributed voice platform is robust, scalable, and observable using core components like Kamailio, RTPengine, FreeSWITCH, and Homer/HEPIC, while driving execution, setting technical vision, and coaching engineers to achieve their career growth.

What You Will Own
The duties and responsibilities of the role.
Provide people leadership, mentorship, and career growth management for engineers on the Voice Platform team.
Actively contribute to individual technical work, including designing, writing, and reviewing code for Golang microservices and SIP/RTP infrastructure.
Partner closely with Product Leadership to align engineering priorities with the product roadmap and actively manage the team backlog.
Set clear performance expectations, hold team members accountable, and conduct regular 1-on-1s and quarterly check-ins.
Provide architectural vision and technical ownership for scaling our distributed cloud-based VoIP platform.
Proactively eliminate knowledge silos and identify roadblocks to ensure steady execution and progression for the team.
Hire and retain top engineering talent through networking, sourcing, and leading structured interview cycles.
Collaborate with internal Weave customers and cross-functional teams (SRE, Product, Support) to support high platform availability and call quality.
Optimize and troubleshoot FreeSWITCH and Kamailio configurations for performance, resiliency, and observability using HEP/Homer.
Foster a culture of high engineering hygiene, trust, transparency, and alignment with Weave Core Values.
What You Will Need to Accomplish the Job
Proven experience in people leadership or technical team leadership within a software/telecom engineering organization.
Staff-level technical expertise in VoIP and SIP engineering, including deep familiarity with Kamailio, FreeSWITCH, RTPengine, and Homer.
Hands-on programming capability in Go (Golang) alongside scripting tools (Python, Bash, LUA).
Deep understanding of TCP/IP networking, firewalls, and protocols (SIP, RTP, RTCP, TLS, ICE, STUN, TURN, WebRTC).
Demonstrated ability to balance individual technical contributions with team leadership and administrative responsibilities.
Experience operating production services in cloud environments (GCP preferred) and Kubernetes.
Familiarity with DevOps infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
Strong conflict resolution, communication, and management-up capabilities.
Experience collaborating with HR partners to handle performance development and coaching.
Commitment to driving incident response, postmortems, and durable fixes.
What Will Make Us Love You
7+ years of experience designing, building, and leading large-scale distributed VoIP networks.
Prior official experience as an Engineering Manager in a dual technical/leadership capacity.
Certifications in Kamailio or OpenSIPS.
Proven track record of building trust, maintaining high morale, and promoting continuous career progression for direct reports.
