ABOUT THIS ROLE

The Product Compliance Engineer will be the primary technical authority responsible for ensuring that all electro-mechanical security systems and associated components (cameras, power systems, enclosures, networking hardware) meet global regulatory standards for market access, safety, and electromagnetic compatibility. This role is critical for the North American market (US and Canada) and involves driving compliance from the initial product design concept through mass production and sustaining engineering.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Regulatory Strategy & Design Support

  • Standards Research: Research, interpret, and track regulatory and industry standards, including those from the Reach, RHOS, FCC, ISED, PTCRB, UL, and CSA, particularly for wireless, battery-powered, and outdoor electro-mechanical equipment.

  • Design Guidance: Provide proactive, in-depth guidance to Electrical, Mechanical, and Firmware engineering teams on current and future compliance requirements.

  • Labeling and Documentation: Own the creation and approval of all required regulatory markings, product labels, and compliance sections within user manuals and technical files (e.g., Declaration of Conformity).

Testing & Certification

  • Test Plan Development: Define and execute comprehensive compliance test plans (Pre-compliance and Formal).

  • Pre-Compliance Testing: Help plan in-house pre-compliance testing for Radiated and Conducted Emissions, Immunity, and ESD using laboratory equipment (spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, signal generators).

  • Agency Management: Coordinate all formal testing with Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs).

  • Troubleshooting: Works with partners and engineering teams to rapidly diagnose and implement design fixes (hardware or firmware) for any non-compliance issues found during testing to prevent costly program delays.

Market Access & Sustaining Compliance

  • Certification Maintenance: Maintain and renew all existing product certifications and manage the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process to ensure that product modifications do not invalidate current approvals.

  • Global Market Access: Support expansion into international markets.

  • Industry-Specific Compliance: Ensure compliance with industry standards relevant to federal and government contracts, such as the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience as a Compliance Engineer or Product Safety Engineer for electro-mechanical, IoT, or wireless products.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Strong knowledge of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC/EMI) principles and mitigation techniques.

    • Hands-on experience with lab equipment for pre-compliance testing (e.g., spectrum analyzer, signal generator).

    • Familiarity with interpreting PCB layouts and mechanical drawings for compliance assessment.

  • Soft Skills: Excellent project management, organization, and technical documentation skills. Ability to clearly communicate complex compliance requirements to non-experts.

BENEFITS
