What ObservePoint Does

Our mission is to help the world’s most successful companies govern their websites. We provide an automated platform that scans millions of web pages every day to perform deep analysis and validation of the world’s highest traffic websites.

Have you ever browsed a website only to find broken links, unexpected trackers, questionable privacy behavior, or slow pages? At ObservePoint, we make it our business to find these problems and report them to our customers, so they can deliver an excellent web experience for their users.

Who are our customers? Hundreds of the biggest brands in the world: Disney, Microsoft, Adobe, Mercedes-Benz, US Bank, and many others.

ObservePoint Front-end Engineering

We are a small team of engineers who love the web. We are fans of continuous deployment, serverless architecture, automation, and modern technologies.

Our front-end is a sophisticated web application that lets users run advanced website scans and visualize the results. We’ve built a beautiful reporting system that lets users create useful custom reports. The next phase of front-end development will include a new charting system, a helpful on-boarding system, and a mountain of other improvements on our roadmap for the coming years.

We believe in resolving technical debt while also building new features. We have supportive and skilled product managers with deep technical expertise in web governance.

At ObservePoint, we invest in our people. Engineers can attend conferences, participate in hackathons, and receive subscriptions to developer tools like Claude Code, Cursor AI, and ChatGPT Pro.

Our front-end is built on TypeScript with modern Angular, hosted on CloudFront. We deploy to production multiple times daily with CircleCI.

The Job of a Principal Front-end Engineer at ObservePoint

The principal front-end engineer at ObservePoint:

  • Architects our front-end including technology choices, design choices, and infrastructure choices.
  • Writes great technical design documents to guide other front-end engineers to build our world-class product.
  • Defines our code style, including automated tools to enforce style, enforce patterns, and prevent bugs.
  • Creates tickets that other engineers implement.
  • Works great with product managers and UX designers to build the best product for our customers.
  • Has influence on the product roadmap. You help the team understand the cost of different front-end approaches, and you come up with genius ideas to deliver great product fast.
  • Is a force multiplier for good. Your work will guide our team of 5 front-end engineers.
  • Is not a people manager. You won’t need to worry about performance reviews, raises, or other people manager stuff.
  • Is a strong systems thinker, who wants to make great decisions that serve us well not only in the short-term, but in the multi-year long term as well.

Hybrid Remote

We work in a hybrid remote and in-person environment. On Wednesdays, we ask product and engineering team members to work in person and enjoy the provided lunch at our Pleasant Grove office. This arrangement gives us a good blend of in-person collaboration time and deep, uninterrupted work time. We believe both are important for engineering teams to do their best work.

Qualifications

  • Expert in TypeScript. We want to take advantage of TypeScript language features to prevent bugs everywhere we can.
  • A desire to work in Angular and stay up to date. We stay on the latest version of Angular.
  • A love of process improvement. If you enjoy helping your teammates be more efficient through automation and tooling, you’ll fit in great here.
  • Desire to work in scrum, and open to process changes as we learn and grow together.
  • Experience with continuous deployment. We trust our developers to ship code to production every day. You ship it, you own it. We don’t believe in tossing code “over the fence” for someone else to operate.
  • Experience with AWS CloudFront. We host our front-end on CloudFront and take advantage of many advanced CloudFront features to deliver a great UI to users.
  • Web platform knowledge. You should be familiar with HTTP, the browser DOM, cookies, and the Chrome network inspector. The knowledge you’ve gained about front-end development will serve you well in our product domain as well.
  • The ability to collaborate with product management and other engineers. Often, this team educates the rest of the company on important web concepts. So we want people who are excited about working with people from a variety of roles, not only fellow engineers.
  • Willingness to make commitments and deliver them. We believe in giving engineers the freedom to determine their own schedules, and then holding ourselves accountable to deliver on those commitments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Half of our team members are located in Europe. Effective written communication is key to spanning time zones. We believe that the best engineering work comes from clear writing.
  • Willingness to embrace AI development tools. Our engineers are becoming experts in AI development.
