About the Role
As a C&I Energy Storage Solutions Engineer / Advisor (a Torus Architect), you will be instrumental in the initial phases of project development. Your responsibilities will include conducting site visits to commercial and industrial facilities, developing preliminary (10%) system designs that are both permit-ready and installation-feasible, and maintaining direct, professional communication with customers. While you will be engaged in a wide variety of projects, you can expect to focus on larger scale / medium / high voltage applications. During the design phase, a strong understanding of existing electrical infrastructure is critical to determining the optimal interconnection strategy and quantifying the potential value delivered to the customer. You will assess each site for space availability, structural and grade constraints, and other physical considerations to ensure a cost-effective and constructible design. Success in this role requires technical expertise in medium / high voltage electrical systems, power distribution, transformer function, hardware selection, and energy consumption analysis, enabling you to maximize system performance and project viability in a wide range of commercial and industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive site assessments specializing in commercial, industrial and utillity customers to gather essential data for project planning.
- Develop preliminary system designs to facilitate early-stage project discussions.
- Act as the primary point of contact with our customers during the design and installation process, maintaining regular communication to keep them informed.
- Translate complex technical systems and industrial-grade processes into clear, accessible concepts and language for non-technical decision makers in business and industrial settings.
- Analyze energy usage and operational performance data to inform design decisions and optimize system performance.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless transition from design to implementation.
- Validate that systems are installed according to plan and meet customer expectations, which may involve travel to customer locations.
- This role involves regular daytime travel, primarily within the state of Utah for site visits and project evaluations. Occasional overnight travel in Utah and/or out of state may be required.
Required Experience
- Typically requires a degree in a related technical field like Electrical Engineering or Renewable Energy, but we value diverse learning paths and welcome candidates who demonstrate relevant experience – such as Journeyman Lineman.
- 5+ years of experience conducting system design and site evaluations for commercial, industrial, and renewable energy projects, with a focus on optimizing performance, cost-efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
- High Voltage experience is a requirement for this position.
- In-depth knowledge of DC and AC electrical specific to Energy Storage, including experience designing large-scale systems for commercial and industrial applications.
- Strong familiarity with applicable codes and standards governing renewable energy systems and storage installations, including the National Electrical Code (NEC) and other relevant local and national regulations.
- Solid understanding of renewable energy technologies, including battery storage solutions, grid-tied systems, and emerging trends shaping the commercial and industrial energy landscape.
- Proven ability to analyze energy consumption profiles and utility billing data to support strategic design decisions and deliver measurable ROI for commercial and industrial clients.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders at all levels.
- Highly developed problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail, ensuring quality and consistency throughout all project phases.
- Valid driver's license, satisfactory driving record and ability to operate a company vehicle.
Preferred Experience
- Medium voltage experience is preferred.
- Experience with design rendering using Aurora (preferred) or similar tools like Solo.
- NABCEP Board Certification
